Chicabal´s meaning
They are a lot of versions about what Chicabal´s means, some of them are:


Wuchkab'al means “Thunders”, this name is because this is a mountain place and near the lagoon thunders are very noisy in winter. Other people says its means “Sweet source of life” , chi = sweet, tejbal = that comes from the rain. And others says that means: “Where it flashes before sweet water rain”.

CHICABAL IS A PROTECTED AREA
Cultural and Natural Monument “Lagoon and Volcano of Chicabal”, was declared protected area by Oficial Decret in 1,956; as prehispanic monument by Ministerial Agreement in June 22nd, 1972; recognized as protected area by Protected Areas law (Decret 4-89) and as Mayan Sacred Place by the Sacred Places Definition Comission August 14th, 1997
